How are shows selected? PDF Print E-mail

Productions are selected based on Director Candidate proposals and/orCommittee proposals.

Musical theater styles are rotated, by season, among campuses, so that each campus is offered something ifferent from the prior season's offering at that site. To avoid sutdents performing more than once in the same show while in our school district, shows produced within the last three years are not available for the elementary sites and shows produced at the elementary sites in the last six years are not available for the middle school.

Musicals are selected for all sites, one per campus per season. The YES Festival includes one production per campus. These performances are generally from mid-February to mid-March. One non-musical is selected for White Hill Middle School.

Show selections should be considerate of our age group and size of our program. Ages range from 9 to 12. Grades 3 - 8 are included and cast sizes can be 60 or more and crew sizes are limited to 12 per show.

Because our shows are expected to actively engage a KidTech crew in sound, running props and set pieces, and lighting, shows chosen include plenty of these technical elements.

The program rotates the order of the shows each year, except White Hill, which has three shows - one in the fall, the second in winter, and the third in March (the finale to the Theater Festival). Rehearsal days are alternated as much as possible from year to year. As a result, any children that can't participate during certain seasons, or on certain days of the week are given an opportuntiy to participate at some point.

Rehearsals are three times per week, for two hours. We try to provide for 20 - 22 rehearsals depending upon the needs of the show. There is also a pre-production workshop, two or three audition days and a week of daily rehearsals at the theater, referred to as "Tech Week."
